Position statement on the use of AI in ACT public schools

The Education Directorate has released our position on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in ACT public schools.

We acknowledge the potential of AI tools to enhance teaching and learning. We are taking a cautious approach to their use in ACT public schools to ensure responsible and ethical use by staff and students.

What does this mean for schools?

Student Chromebooks will continue to restrict student access to AI applications due to potential exposure to harmful content.

AI tools are available for staff to use and can be accessed on their work computers and other devices.

Teachers are encouraged to educate students on generative AI in line with the Australian Curriculum.
