Administrative and school support roles in our schools

A range of administrative and school support roles are offered in ACT public schools.

We advertise these jobs on the ACT Government Careers and Employment External Link website.

Administrative officers

As an administrative officer in a school your duties may include any of the following:

  • Collecting financial payments
  • Supervising clerical and support staff
  • Coordinating repairs and maintenance of school property
  • Talking to parents and carers and school related bodies
  • Supporting the principal and school leaders with administrative tasks.

A knowledge of financial systems and procedures is an advantage for administrative officer roles.

School support staff

Our schools employ staff to support teachers in the classroom to do their job and support students. Assistance required varies from school to school but may include Learning Support Assistants, hearing and vision support, bilingual language support and classroom support assistants for preschool or subject specific like industrial design, library and home economics.

Documents and registration details you need to supply

To work in an ACT public school you will need to provide proof of a current Working with Vulnerable People registration External Link and certified documents to verify your identity. Without these documents, you cannot work in a school.

It is the responsibility of individuals to ensure their WWVP card remains current. If you are already working at an ACT public school and need to renew your WWVP card, you can do so by completing the Application for Renewal of Registration for Casual School Administrative Support Staff MS Word File (117kb).

Payment and conditions

Casual administrative and support staff are paid at a daily or hourly rate under the (Administrative) Enterprise Agreement: Administrative and Related Classification Enterprise Agreement found on the Enterprise Agreements - ACTPS Employment Portal External Link.

Casual staff do not have entitlement to personal leave, maternity leave, recreation leave, public holiday pay or stand down period with pay.

Casual staff can accrue long service leave entitlement provided there is no break in service of more than 12 months and are paid the minimum required superannuation percentage.
